The Southlake YMCA strengthens the foundations of our community through well-being and fitness, camps, family time, swim, sports and play, and other activities for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. The primary purpose of the Southlake Branch YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
Our Timeline
- 1975: South Ward School buliding purchased and donated to the YMCA by Southlake Board of Realtors
- 1976: Southlake YMCA officially incorporated in the state of Indiana
- 1988: Southlake Y Board of Directors develops its first long range plan. Key goals include building a new facility.
- 1992: Southlake Y Board starts a capital campaign.
- 1996: Ground breaking ceremony.
- 1997: Grand opening at current location.
- 1998: Membership grew from 680 members to 5,000 members.
- 2000: Southlake Y Board approves Capital Campaign to expand facility.
- 2002: Added 20,000 feet of new space to alleviate crowding.
- 2005: Added two outdoor basketball courts, two sand volleyball courts and a pair of playgrounds.
- 2010: The Southlake Y merged with the Hammond Y to form the Crossroads YMCA Inc.
- 2011: The Crossroads YMCA opened another location in Griffith: The Y at Franklin Center.
